Abstract: I'll present an overview of the NERSC computing environment, with an emphasis on the new Cray XT4, Franklin. I'll point out differences between Franklin and NERSC's other HPC platforms and best practices for compiling and running jobs. I'll also discuss data transfer methods to and from NERSC and our plans for more transparently supporting grid-based transfers. Throughout the the talk I'd like to get feedback on the specific challenges PPPL faces in HPC.
