Using SSH keys

• Easiest way is to use ssh-agent. If you are using Gnome/GDM, create a file called .gnomerc and put something in it like:

  #! /bin/sh
  #
  eval `ssh-agent -s`
  ssh-add < /dev/null
  gnome-session
  eval `ssh-agent -k`
  

  (Put something like this in .xsession for XDM/KDM)
• Allows you to enter your SSH key passphrase once at the beginning of your X session.
• Using SSH key pairs, your passphrase does not go over the network at all (using password auth, your password goes encrypted)
