Higher-order methods for turbulence simulations

In this talk, we will review higher-order compact finite difference (Pade) methods as well as weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) schemes. The modified wavenumber behaviour for both the Pade and the WENO schemes will be quantified. These numerical methods will be compared in the context of direct numerical simulations (DNS) and large eddy simulations (LES) of compressible isotropic turbulence. Furthermore, we will discuss the suitability of low-order methods for LES of turbulence.
