How to install OpenAFS

• RPMS for RedHat 6.2,7.0,7.1 are available at http://www.openafs.org.
• If you have a non-standard kernel, you'll need to recompile the kernel module (install openafs-kernel-source rpm, go to /usr/src/openafs-<version>-kernel, and follow the build instructions there)
• You'll need to edit a couple files:
  • /usr/vice/etc/ThisCell: replace the first line with pppl.gov.
  • /usr/vice/etc/cacheinfo: Edit this file to change location of the AFS cache and cache size (default is 100MB, I use 200MB).
• If you want to get an AFS token (AFS authentication) everytime you log in, you'll need to use the AFS PAM module that comes with OpenAFS. Add the following line to /etc/pam.d/{gdm,login,xdm}:

  auth    sufficient   /lib/security/pam_afs.so try_first_pass ignore_root
  

  (Note: Sometimes, if AFS or the network is unavailable, this can cause long hangs at login (until the attempt to get an AFS token times out)
• Run the following: ln -s /afs/pppl.gov/i386_linux22 /a ln -s /afs/pppl.gov/common /c
