The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory seeks either an Associate Research Physicist (Post doc) or Staff Research Physicist in the Laboratory Astrophysics Division in Plasma Science & Technology Department. The successful candidate will perform the experimental campaigns in both Magnetic Reconnection Experiment (MRX) and Omega laser facility at the Laboratory of Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester to study physics of magnetic reconnection n both magnetically driven plasmas and flow driven plasmas. The main purpose of the experimental research in MRX is to collaborate with other participating groups within the newly established Princeton Max-Planck Center for Plasma Physics, as well as the Center for Magnetic Self-Organization (CMSO). Working with other personnel and graduate students, the candidate will lead experimental campaigns to investigate mechanisms of fast magnetic reconnection and the associated physical processes in MRX and Omega facility, such as particle heating and acceleration. Close collaboration and interactions within the Max-Planck center and CMSO are required. Candidates must have an extensive background in experimental physics, preferably plasma physics. The major responsibilities include initiation experimental campaign, interpreting results, performing and analyzing supporting numerical simulations, presenting and publishing results jointly with other researchers. Coordinating activity with other technical, engineering and administrative personnel is also essential. Development of new ideas should help grow the area of laboratory plasma astrophysics at PPPL in the long term. Applicant must have a PhD in plasma physics or related physics, with preference given to applicants with experience in plasma experiments and their diagnostics, data acquisition, data processing and application to heliophysics and astrophysics. Qualified applicants should apply at jobs.princeton.edu - and send a curriculum vitae and bibliography, and arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent as soon as possible for full consideration.
