Requisition #:1200713

Perform first principle calculations in the areas of mechanical engineering, structural engineering, cryogenic engineering, vacuum engineering, and analysis of high heat flux components for the Plasma Physics Laboratory. Apply extensive and diverse knowledge of principles and practices in static and transient structural and electromagnetic, finite element stress analysis and heat transfer (including radiation) to engineering analysis of large water cooled or superconducting electromagnets, vacuum systems, structural systems and diagnostics and auxiliary heating systems used in experimental fusion devises. Participate in meetings and conferences.

Requires Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering and five years experience in electromagnetic and structural analyses. Employer will also accept a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or foreign equivalent and two years experience in electromagnetic and structural analyses. Experience must include: ANSYS and other finite element multiphysics codes; the mechanical electromagnetic and thermal behavior of an operating tokamak or experiments with high energy physics magnets or commercial superconducting magnets. Experience with coupled multiphysics analyses and FEA scripting language such as ANSYS APDL is required. Must have experience producing viable analysis meshes from CAD solid models and converting Design Modeler, or ProE, or CATIA or IGES, or STP files to ANSYS meshes.
