3.4: Other Utilities

As with the X clients, there are far too many utilities available than can be described here. Here is a list of the most commonly used utilities:

• xrsh - runs a remote X client
• xmag - magnifying glass
• xev - event tester
• xhost, xauth - access control programs
• Xauth - exports access code to remote hosts
• xfd/xselfont - displays font samples
• xlsfonts - lists fonts
• xmodmap - changes up keyboard mapping
• xdpyinfo - gives information about the current server
• xwd - dumps window image
• xwud - displays window image from dump
• xrdb - loads resources into the X server
• xsetroot - sets root color and cursor type
• xcolor - shows available colors
