Dr. Neil Pomphrey is a Principal Research
Physicist in the Theory Department of the Princeton Plasma Physics
Laboratory. He has published extensively (~120 refereed journals)
on various aspects of the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) of fusion plasmas,
as well as on diverse areas of physics including quantum and classical
chaos, semiclassical mechanics and oceanography. Most recently, Pomphrey
has worked on the development of mathematical methods and numerical
techniques for the design of three-dimensional magnetic fields required
to support plasmas in the National Compact Stellarator Experiment,
NCSX. Prior to coming to PPPL in 1983, he was a Staff Research Physicist
at the La Jolla Institute in California and was a post-doc at the
University of California-Berkeley and at Queen Mary College, London
(England). Pomphrey received his B.Sc. in Chemical Physics from Edinburgh
University (Scotland) and his PhD from Stirling University (Scotland).
