Resistive Wall Modes

A circuit equation formulation of resistive wall mode (RWM) feedback stabilization schemes for tokamaks has been developed. This was a major step forward, as it allows direct comparison of all the various recently proposed schemes for controlling RWMs. The formalism is analogous to the circuit equation approaches commonly used for the design and analysis of n=0 control systems and uses concepts from electrical circuit theory which clearly shows the importance of the sensors and the actuators. This has been developed for a straight plasma column with one unstable mode, but is in the process of being extended to a toroidal configuration.
