Gas fueling
See Lundberg thesis for details on LTX fueling, LTX-β fueling different but uses many of same systems and principles.
Injectors
LTX Vessel
The HFS puffer is mounted to the centerstack above the midplane in the shell gap at section H-I, entering from the top rectangular port. PEV-1 piezoelectric puffer valve above vessel under TF coils near Thomson scattering lens. Uses VCR fittings, manual VCR Swagelok valves before and after puffer valve.
Previously LFS puffer, Top puffer, MCI, SGI - see Lundberg thesis (linked above and under References).
Neutral Beam
The anode and cathode puffers are located inside the beam source. The neutralizer connects at the interface between the source and the neutralizer tank.
Gas lines
Gas bottles on west wall, go through manifold to SS line to puffer. Dry scroll pump for pumping/purging lines.
Filling/Purging
When filling or purging the gas lines, the safety valve must be latched open. How? Set power supply from ex. trig. to manual?.
The gas manifold must be reconfigured between filling (Fig. 1) and purging (Fig. 2) by changing the state of the bottle and the two valves between the main line and the purging pump. Since the purging pump is small, it can take some time to bring the line pressure down.
Neutral Beam
The neutral beam has own gas bottles and lines for each injector. Anode and cathode lines share a pump/purge connection and are electrically connected to each other but isolated from ground. The neutralizer has its own connection to the pump/purge line and is grounded to the neutralizer tank.
Safety valves
Pneumatic Swagelok valves along gas feeds: above LTX just before HFS puffer manual valve, and just before NBI neutralizer. Actuated by 24V DC solenoid in cable tray above pneumatic control box. Receives 24V signal from TP325 power supply in middle/digitizer room above middle L209B rack which is normally switched on only during run days. 24V signal is gated on just before a shot by delay generator under CAMAC crate and can be manually triggered or gating circuit can be bypassed for gas line pumping/purging or NBI only operations.
Valve driver
Valve driver controllers in bottom left control room rack below AO / DO BNC patch panel. Power button for controller, individual on/off switches for each output, knob to set output voltage for valve drivers. Light indicates when output active. Output typically set to max 140V. Digital input comes from DO patch panel from Chronos, unclear if they respond differently to analog signal. Output over fiber optics to drivers in middle room above CAMAC rack L209C. Output to puffer valve via Twinax cable and BNC adapters.
Acquisition
Voltage divider previously used to digitize driver signal, but seemed noisy or had ground issues. None presently. Chronos DO programmed waveforms written to tree.
