Gyrofluid/Gyrokinetic Simulations Accurately Predict Many
Experiments
IFS-PPPL transport model predicts the confinement
time tauE due to turbulent losses for a wide range of TFTR L-mode
plasmas better than a widely used empirical scaling:
Qualitatively predicts the dramatic transition to the Supershot regime,
though with some sensitivity to impurity or other assumptions (green vs.
red curves):
IFS-PPPL reduced transport model based on nonlinear gyrofluid
and comprehensive linear gyrokinetic codes (Kotschenreuther, Dorland (IFS),
Beer, Hammett (PPPL) Phys. Plasmas 2, 2381 (1995))
Caveats: Temperatures predicted for r/a < 0.8 ignoring the edge
and using the measured density profiles. Extensions to a more complete
model and a wider range of plasma regimes is well under way.
