Grad B drift

The grad B drift is a type of particle drift . The "force" provided by the grad-B is \nabla_\| is the derivative along the field line, and μ is the first adiabatic invariant .

\mathbf{v}_d=\frac{c}{q B^2}\mathbf{B}\times\mu\nabla_\|B

For the approximation to be valid, it is necessary that \nabla_\| B \ll 1/\rho, where ρ is the gyro radius .
