The Vlasov equation describes the evolution of a distribution function in the absence of non-Hamiltonian forces like collisions. The equation is:

\frac{\partial f}{\partial t} + \nabla_6 \left(\mathbf{v}_6 f\right) = 0

\mathbf{v}_6 is the velocity in 6-space, that is (vx,vy,vz,ax,ay,az).
